Dear Mark,

As president of Southeast Neighbors, the City-recognized neighborhood association representing southeast Eugene, I am writing to express opposition to the pending applications for tree cutting at Rest Haven.

The removal of this large number of trees would have a very significant negative effect on the environmental quality of the area including scenic and wildlife habitat values.

This form of development by tree felling would directly and substantially damage the character of the South Hills.

Furthermore and in addition, it is my current understanding that the goal of the proposed cutting is to create a lawn-style environment -- not to create needed space for the economic, cultural or spiritual activities of Rest Haven.

A large lawn-style environment is directly, explicitly, and rather obviously contrary to the established and protected character of the forested hills of southeast Eugene.

Thank you for taking our viewpoint into consideration.

Respectfully,

Kevin Matthews
