Dear Nature Project People,
The City of Eugene Planning Commission is having a work
session on the Metro Natural Resources Study:
Tuesday, September 25, 5:30 pm
Saul Room, Atrium Building
99 West 10th Ave., Eugene
Contact: Eric Wold, 682-8408, firstname.lastname@example.org
It has been a while since there has been any visible public progress on the local natural resources planning process. Meanwhile, a developer lawsuit has succeeded in blocking the important open waterways protection ordinance in Eugene, apparently because of the long (and largely developer-induced) delays in NRS planning here.
Also please mark your calendar for Tuesday, November 13, 2001, when the Southeast Neighbors and other citizen groups are sponsoring a presentation by Richard Dale of the Sonoma Watershed Project. This citizen nature group in northern California has done fantastic work in citizen nature mapping, water and habitat quality monitoring, and more.
Interfacing with other groups, government, and local businesses, the Sonoma Watershed Project now has more than a dozen paid staff and a very significant infuence on local planning and development results. Richard will talk with us about what makes it tick, and how it all came together.
If you know of a group that might be interested in co-sponsoring the November event, please let me know, or have them get in touch directly. And please pass this on to any others who might be interested.
