===== A message from the arctic-action mailing list =====
-
A few minutes ago, the U.S. House of Representatives narrowly voted down
(by 228 to 197) an energy bill amendment to protect the Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge from drilling.However, the news is not all bad. Considering that the House is far less
favorable to conservation legislation today than it was two years ago, the
closeness of the vote shows that support for protecting the Refuge
continues to remain strong in Congress. Added to the fact that the Senate
has voted TWICE in the past 12 months to protect the Arctic Refuge, the
message is very clear: Arctic Refuge drilling should remain a non-starter.The Northern Center will work diligently over the next few weeks and months
to ensure that the Senate will continue to safeguard the Arctic Refuge.We will send out another alert within a few days - listing all of the
Representatives who voted with us and encouraging you to send thank you's.
