Dear Neil,

Following up on our conversation Monday afternoon, here are some references for existing maps of pileated woodpecker habitat, by source.

1) Issued by LCOG and their professional consultants:

Metropolitan Plan Vegetation Types Map (1978), as formally annotated by "Vegetation and Wildlife Habitat Species by Habitat Type", LOCG, April 1990. Map drawing issued as part of the "Metropolitan Plan Assest and Constraints Working Paper", LCOG, 1978.

2) Issued by Citizens Nature Project, Mary O'Brien (PhD, Botany) and Kevin Matthews (BA, Environmental Studies) co-coordinators, supported by numerous professional and non-professional contributors:

Public testimony on NRS to LCOG (2000)
Summary Map #3, as annotated by site report 03-20000823-02
Summary Map #7, as annotated by site report 07-20000824-02
Summary Map #8, as annotated and detailed by site reports 08-20000827-01, 08-20000827-02, 08-20000826-06

FYI, I've copied Ed Russo on this message since he's asked for the same kind of info.

Some other sources we haven't been able to review yet because the dtata is published in GIS format. Research continues.

Hope this helps!

Best wishes,

Kevin Matthews
